A very positive list for Welsh players. It is interesting to note that compared to only 3 years ago our 1st team of the time would only compare with our current 3rd team!

Annotated game from 2017 Ward-Higgs County Championship by John Thornton

Austin Lockwood  Wednesday, November 1, 2017

John Thornton has submitted the attached game from the 2017 Ward-Higgs.  This tournament only started last month, this game was completed in under two weeks!

John writes:

The whole game took under a fortnight, which I'm sure is long in 'short correspondence games' terms, but the remarkable thing to me is that this and my 31 move Black game in the event had both finished with a mating attack before the last game in the event had been started.

Clean sweep in the Qualifiers for Andrew Smith

Russell Sherwood  Tuesday, October 24, 2017

Well done to Andrew Smith for achieving 12/12 in the Welsh Championship Qualifiers section https://www.iccf.com/event?id=68347.

This is a very difficult result to achieve in modern CC, regardless of the tournament!

Andrew has now booked his place for the next Welsh Championships!

Here we see the fine form in his win over likely 2nd place, Eleanor Collins.
