British Chess Championship

I entered the BCCA reserves this year for the first time - and what I disagree with what is happening is that all games I the tourney can be seen from move 1. Some players have not started their games as of yet due to taking their full quota of hols straight away and can see what is happening and what other players are playing with white and black. Surely all games should be blanked until games are finished or until a percentage of games have been played in the section.

What do other people think of this??

Hi Glyn,

The tournament organiser can set this if they want to, it's at their discretion... but...

BCCA is not recognised by ICCF, and they can't legitimately call their tournaments the "British Championship" (if that's what they are calling it, they need to be pulled up on that) - there is only one official British CC Championship, and it's not run by BCCA.

Cheers,

Austin

I totally agree, Glyn.... but could you not see the rules before entering?  Anyhow, more pertinent - why does the BCCA continue to exist?

why does the BCCA continue to exist?

Two reasons, I guess...

  1. Because people keep paying the membership fee, and,
  2. because we keep making efforts (largely unthanked) to create loopholes which allow them to run international ICCF rated tournaments without all the usual requirements.

Interestingly BCCA pay an affiliation fee to EFCC, but nothing to WCCF or SCCA - maybe it's time to rethink what we offer them?

Firstly the BCCA is a club championship not the British championship which this year is renamed as the Penrose Memorial.

if you have an issue with the set up and the settings approach the TO who will no doubt bring it to the BCCA committee

the same set up with live games is in the majority of events.

The BCCA exists as a club has been established for over a hundred years would be a pity to get rid of it!.

They're like that teenage kid... you keep doing things for them with only a grunt in acknowledgement, they have an overwhelming and unrealistic sense of entitlement, and they've been around for so long that you'd feel bad about kicking them out.

So... BCCA pay an affiliation fee to the English CC federation, and in return their players are allowed to participate in BCCA events.

But BCCA don't pay an affiliation fee to any other CC federation, including those that allow their players to participate in BCCA events - is this something that needs to be fixed?

High , Just to note Glyn is not playing in The BCCA , but The British Candidates ....
